1) Rimkok Resort Hotel – 20 viewsBefore driving to the Karen Ruammit Village today, Adde and I stop off at the Rimkok Resort Hotel in Chiang Rai to have lunch. This is a picture of us outside the main entrance to the Rimkok Resort Hotel.

2) Rimkok Resort Hotel Buffet – 20 viewsInside the buffet room at the Rimkok Resort Hotel, we’re going to get our food. The all you can eat buffet is available most days at lunch time for 150 Baht per person.

3) Thai Food Buffet – 19 viewsEating at the Rimkok Resort Hotel all you can eat buffet. There is enough variety of Thai and Chinese food to keep most Chiang Rai tourists happy.

4) Road To Karen Ruammit Village – 23 viewsLong road on the way to Karen Ruammit Village. From the Rimkok Resort Hotel the drive is about 30 minutes. The view of the valley and the Mae Kok River alone is worth the trip.

5) Parking At Elephant Camp – 31 viewsParking at the Karen Ruammit Village elephant camp. Plenty of parking is available at the camp. That’s my little Honda CRV parked behind a local shuttle bus.

6) Exit To Elephant Camp – 35 viewsThe parking lot is still under construction. This looks like the easiest way to walk to the asian elephant camp. You can already see how close we are to the Mae Kok River. Maybe the dogs think we came to see them?

7) Walk To Elephant Camp – 37 viewsMy tour guide Add and I walk the short distance from the parking lot to the main entrance of the Karen Ruammit Village elephant camp. We are entering from the side because of where we parked. The asian elephants are straight ahead, we can see them from here.

8) Enter The Elephant Camp – 41 viewsThose two dogs still think we came here to see them and are following us around the camp. Well that’s ok if they are friendly dogs. The elephants are right in front of you when you enter the camp. They see us now and look like they want something, some food maybe?

9) Buy Elephant Food – 51 viewsThe local Thai vendor asked us to buy some snacks to feed the elephants inside the camp. Add and I have fed elephants like this in the past, so we know that it’s fun. We are buying bananas and sugar cane which are not expensive. This little store is next to the elephant camp. Souvenirs are also available at this store.

10) Feed The Elephants – 43 viewsAdd and I are feeding the elephants in this picture. Elephants are super smart and they have been watching us, waiting for us to turn around to feed them.

11) Feed Small Elephant – 50 viewsAfter we feed the big Thai elephants we begin to feed the smaller ones at the camp. All of the elephants love bananas and sugar cane snacks, so we have to be careful not to feed all the snacks to just one elephant.

12) More Elephants At The Camp – 47 viewsIn this picture you can see nine elephants at the camp. More elephants are touring around the village and playing in the Mae Kok River. This elephant camp is smaller than the big camps in Chiang Mai. Of course if you are visiting Chiang Rai then you should stop here for some fun.

13) Long Tail Boat Tour – 54 viewsAll those elephants are just to the left of the Mae Kok River in this picture. If you have the time, I’d recommend that you take the long tail boat tour to get here from Chiang Rai. It is a nice way to see the river and the boat stops at the camp so that you can ride the elephants.

14) Karen Rrummit Village Pier – 50 viewsJust past the view of the camera is the long tail boat pier at the Karen Ruammit Village elephant camp.

15) Thai Boa Constrictor Snakes – 54 viewsAlso at the camp are some big Boa Constrictor snakes. You can take pictures with the Thai native snakes using your own camera or have pictures printed for you while you wait. The Boa Constrictor in the cage is bigger than me and I was too afraid to touch it. If you want to take a picture with the big Thailand Boa Constrictor you will need 5 or 6 people to hold it because it’s really big!

16) Picture With Thai Snake – 56 viewsI was afraid to hold this smaller snake but my friends were there to help me. I paid about 200 Thai Baht for several pictures using my own digital camera. If I remember correctly, it costs just 300 Thai Baht to use the store camera including to print the picture.

17) Elephant Camp Tour Office – 57 viewsCardboard cut outs of Karen Hill Tribe traditional dress. The Karen Hill Tribe dress on left side is for men and the right side is for women. Behind me is the office where you can ask for elephant tour information. We’re ready to ride the elephants. How much is it? You can pay just 100 Thai Baht for a short ride or pay 300 or more for a normal length elephant ride. At 35 Thai Baht per 1 US Dollar that’s a good deal. Less than $10 for an elephant ride in Chiang Rai, Thailand.

18) Start Thai Elephant Ride – 49 viewsOk here we go. Add and I are ready to take the elephant ride. Let’s go!
karen-ruammit-village-19.jpg
19) Mae Kok River Elephant Ride – 43 viewsWe ride the elephant around the village first, then the elephant trainer takes us into the Mae Kok River. The river’s water level is quite low at this time of year. Either way the elephants love to play in the water.

20) Elephant Ride In River – 43 viewsPicture of the big elephant in the Mae Kok River.
